A man has been seriously injured in a stabbing in Cirencester this morning (Saturday).

Emergency services were called to reports of a casualty in Matthews Walk at around 1am.

The victim, a man aged in his 20s, sustained several stab wounds – and was rushed to the Major Trauma Centre at Southmead Hospital in Bristol.

He remains in hospital for treatment, but his condition unknown at this time.

Armed police were reportedly deployed, and a 32-year-old man from Cirencester was arrested.

Gloucestershire Constabulary confirmed that the man was arrested for attempted murder and is being questioned in custody.

Crime scenes are in place on the footbridge between Middle Mead and Cricklade Road (outside Aldi), and at Kingshill Meadow Country Park.

Forensic work will be carried out in the area later today, with the cordons expected to remain until late afternoon.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish what happened and a number of scene guards remain in place while officers are at the scene”, a force spokesperson said.

Adding: “Despite the arrest investigating officers are asking anyone with information which they believe is relevant to make contact.

“Information can be provided to police online by completing the following form and quoting incident 32 of 24 May.”
